Practicing weekly is the usual routine for this group of kids. “We try to practice as much as possible.” WeKilledShelly vocalist Peter Rivas said. Trying to play as many shows as you can during the breaks is pretty difficult but well worth it when bands see more and more people coming out to see them, “Its good to see fans come out and watch us.” Aaron Miller, El Guapos guitarist and vocalist said.
"Right now we are preparing for our show, writing new songs," Isaac Roberts said. Preparing for shows and writing more songs is becoming a necessity for these bands as they start to play bigger and bigger shows. “Our first few shows were awkward, we played with really popular bands.” Aaron Miller said. The need to be able to mix the styles of every member is needed to make a more successful band.
Everyone has different influences and the ability to mix it all together is key. "Well, the first practice was choppy, we were all friends who had different music styles. We got over it and now we play really well together," Aaron Miller said. These kids are showcasing a creativity that they might not have been able to show if they were not in these bands. Without school most of these kids wouldn’t be playing together, and thanks to the battle of the bands we have WeKilledShelly. "The actual reason we started this band was to compete in battle of the bands, we never expected to be well liked," Peter Rivas said. A rapid growing fan base is in these bands future as they gradually play more shows and release more demos as well as good ol' myspace. Don’t miss Open Gate Fest with Essence of Fear and WeKilledShelly this winter.
